| Introduction Introduction |
Taki Nakazato turned 60 this year. When he started pottery, his father didn't teach him anything, but he did say one thing: "Aim to make 500 pieces a day as your first goal."
I've known Taigame-san for nearly 30 years now, and during that time, he has consistently focused on "creating tableware that can be used every day in people's lives." Takashi Nakazato 's way of life is that he can't be satisfied unless music, food, and pottery are all handmade and have an authentic taste, and this way of life has been passed down to Taiki.
Fans who use Taigame's pottery say that when it's time to replace their pieces, they'll buy more of Taigame's pottery. The reason is that it's made with the user in mind every day. Everyday tableware is often simple and refined.
That attitude remains unchanged even when it comes to tea ceremony utensils. The above-mentioned "Karatsu Nanban-style hammered water container" is a work that clearly reflects the state of mind of Taiki-san as he reaches the age of 60. The wood changes just right inside the wood-fired kiln; the ash cover, the charring, the color of the fire—it all looks so natural and pleasing. In Kabuki terms, he's truly a masterful supporting actor.
