| Introduction Introduction |
On the 30th day of the first month, a windy day, I flew to Izumo in Shimane Prefecture for the first time in a long while. As I landed at Izumo Airport, a biting, freezing wind typical of the San'in region in the middle of winter stung my cheeks, and I instinctively turned up the collar of my coat. To meet the wonderful ceramic artist couple, Yoshiko and Ken Mihara, I pressed the gas pedal of my rental car and headed towards the Mihara Studio, with Lake Shinji, which was churning with waves due to the strong winds, in my view.
I couldn't help but smile as I celebrated the reunion with the couple. While enjoying a delicious cup of thin matcha tea that Yoshiko-san prepared for us in a tea bowl, we had a wonderful time chatting about all sorts of things. From the planning of this exhibition, we talked about memories of Mr. Haruzo Hayashiya, who introduced me to the two of you, updates on our families, clam-related matters (lol), and above all, the wonderful new works of Yoshiko that she displayed so beautifully...
This exhibition, which marks the sixth time this exhibition has been held at our gallery, will feature Yoshiko's latest and most endearing works. Yoshiko's recent works are so full of charm that you can clearly see the joy and freedom with which she creates them. Up until now, I've either painted birds and small animals on the dishes, or had them attached to the dishes, but now they've finally leaped out of the dishes and started moving around freely. Check out the latest creations on the back, featuring adorable kittens tilting their heads and rabbits with smug expressions. Furthermore, he also began to paint plants and animals on pottery using iron glaze. Of course, as before, Ken-san will also be contributing a few pieces, such as tea bowls, as a token of his affection, adding a touch of elegance to the venue.
With a heavy heart, I left the Mihara workshop. This time, I didn't have enough time to visit Izumo Taisha Shrine, and I had to make a quick trip back, so I'll have to look forward to visiting the shrine and eating Izumo soba noodles next time. I would be delighted if you would take the time to view Ms. Mihara's exhibition.

| Biography Biography | 1982: Graduated from Osaka University of Arts, Department of Crafts, Ceramics Major (Seminar of Mitsuru Yamada) After graduation, I studied under Professor Kenji Funaki for two years. Solo exhibition at Kakiden Gallery in 2011 (and again in 2014, 2018, 2019, and 2019). Numerous solo and group exhibitions held in various locations. Currently in production in Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture. |
