What comes to mind when you think of Shimane Prefecture? As someone who loves Shimane, I think of Izumo Taisha Shrine, Lake Shinji, Matsudaira Fumai, the Anjiki family of ceramic artists, the Tanabe Museum of Art, and Tamatsukuri Onsen.
The artist we're introducing today, Yoshiko Mihara , is a ceramic artist who has a wonderful studio near the famous Tamatsukuri Onsen hot spring resort. Her husband is Ken Mihara , a ceramic artist renowned for his unglazed stoneware, and they are a loving couple whom I admire.
Now, Yoshiko's works are themed around "forests," and she has been creating adorable pieces by kneading clay, shaping it into birds and animals found in the forest, diligently painting flowers and plants, and then applying a soft white glaze. These are works that bring a sense of peace and tranquility to your heart amidst your busy daily life.
This exhibition, the fifth at our gallery in three years, is subtitled "Forest of White Dew" and will showcase our latest works of tea ceremony ceramics and other tableware. This latest work is created using the collage technique and is a lovely piece that represents an evolution from Yoshiko's previous works. Furthermore, her husband, Ken, will also be exhibiting a few new works, adding to the charm of his beloved wife's solo exhibition.

| Biography Biography | Graduated from Osaka University of Arts, Department of Crafts, Ceramics Major (Seminar of Mitsuru Yamada) in 1982. After graduation, I studied under Professor Kenji Funaki for two years. Solo exhibition at Kakiden Gallery in 2011 (and again in 2014, 2016, and 2019). Numerous solo and group exhibitions held in various locations. Currently in production in Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture. |
