I visited Mr. and Mrs. Mihara in Matsue after a long time. As always, talking with these two wonderful people makes me feel happy too.
Yoshiko is the wife of Ken Mihara , a ceramic artist from Matsue who is active on a global scale. She fully demonstrates her supportive role as a wife, and in recent years has also been diligently pursuing her own pottery making. The artwork is incredibly endearing, featuring bird and animal motifs adorned with a soft white glaze. We also have a little bird made by Yoshiko on our bathroom sink, which chirps and says "Good morning" every morning. When I look at her work, a smile naturally spreads across my face, and my heart feels at peace.
Now, for this exhibition, our fourth at our gallery, we will be presenting new lidded containers. The monkey on the back, with a solemn expression in front of a teacup, is apparently practicing the tea ceremony. As someone born in the Year of the Monkey, I can't help but feel a deep affection for this monkey, as it reminds me of my own immaturity. This tea bowl, shaped like a well in front of the monkey, is also lovely, and I thought I'd like to have a cup of tea from it...
This exhibition will also feature a small number of works by her husband. I would be delighted if you would take a look at it.

| Biography Biography | Graduated from Osaka University of Arts, Department of Crafts, Ceramics Major (Seminar of Mitsuru Yamada) in 1982. After graduation, I studied under Professor Kenji Funaki for two years. Solo exhibition at Kakiden Gallery in 2011 (also in 2014 and 2016) Numerous solo and group exhibitions held in various locations. Currently in production in Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture. |
