| Introduction Introduction |
Three years ago, I made my "Pink Declaration" in the invitation to my solo exhibition at Kakiden Gallery. It seems that it became a localized topic of conversation among a very small number of pottery enthusiasts and those in the tea ceremony community.
As I work on my creations, my revered teacher, Fumio Takada, speaks to me through radiko (a Japanese radio service): "Popularity is about duration, not height."
I, too, who have chosen to live my life as a ceramic artist specializing in pink ceramics, am half white this year. In this era of 100-year lifespans, my training will continue until the day I can celebrate not a 99th birthday, but a "pink birthday."
"I can't help but think, 'I'd like it to be as tall and long as Mount Kai-Komagatake, a famous peak in my hometown,'" and as I spin the potter's wheel, I find myself nodding in agreement, realizing that choosing this color was inevitable.
I am pleased to announce that I will be holding a solo exhibition to mark what I hope will be the halfway point of my life. The venue will, as always, be predominantly pink, but we invite you to come and see it and offer your feedback.
