Tomoyuki Hoshino first gained attention in the world of ceramics in 2013. He swept all the ceramics awards that year, including the Kikuchi Biennale Encouragement Award, the Japan Ceramics Exhibition "Special Exhibition - Ibaraki Prefectural Ceramics Museum Award," the East Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition "Mitsukoshi Isetan Award," the Tobi Exhibition "Excellence Award - Interior Aqua Award," and the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition "Japan Crafts Association Encouragement Award." This is because his unique "neri-tsugi" technique, which combines "neri-age" and "do-tsugi," has attracted attention. "Renkei" is a term coined by Mr. Hoshino. The lower half of the porcelain clay, infused with pink pigment, and the upper half, made solely from porcelain clay, are shaped separately on a potter's wheel. After joining the two halves together, the surface and rim are planed down after drying, creating variations in the inlaid pattern and resulting in a work full of tension. The appeal of Hoshino's work lies in its powerful, spiraling forms and the exquisite balance between negative space and patterns. This time, she will also be trying out a new style of work that incorporates gray pigment into porcelain clay. I'm really looking forward to seeing how things unfold.

| Biography Biography | Born in 1976 in Kofu City, Yamanashi Prefecture. 1999: Graduated from Yokohama City University, Faculty of Commerce. Joined Pasona Inc. (Left in March 2004). In 2005, he completed the Molding Department at Kyoto Prefectural Advanced Technical School for Ceramics, and studied under Yuichi Ikai. Established independent business in Kokubunji City, Tokyo in 2006. 2010: Selected for the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition (also selected in 2012 and 2014) In 2013, I was certified as a full member of the Japan Crafts Association.
