| Introduction Introduction |
Time flies, and our gallery has now reached the milestone of its fifth exhibition of Karatsu ware by Naoto Yano . I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Mr. Yano, who creates wonderful works every time, and to our customers who love Mr. Yano's work so much. Thank you very much.
I first met Ms. Yano at the second Karatsu ware group exhibition held at our gallery in 2012. At that time, she exhibited a sleek, gourd-shaped flower vase made of black Karatsu ware, and I remember being immediately captivated by its refined appearance. I was also impressed by the honest and straightforward demeanor of Mr. Yano when I first met him in his youth. Fourteen years have passed since then, and Mr. Yano has now reached the age of fifty, a milestone I offer my heartfelt congratulations to. It seems I, too, am growing older, still far from perfect...
Now, the Karatsu tea bowl pictured above, which was sent to us for the main visual, exuded a new atmosphere unlike any of Yano's previous tea bowls. The soft glaze applied to the Kumagawa-style shape, the gentle floral painting, and the earthy texture of the base all had a distinctive Yano-esque touch. The aforementioned black Karatsu flower vase will also be exhibited at this exhibition as a sake bottle of the same style. In addition, we will be exhibiting approximately 100 of the artist's latest works, which he said he would fire up his kiln right up until the end of the exhibition period, even during the New Year holidays. I apologize for bothering you during this cold time of year, but I would be delighted if you would take the time to view it.
