Introduction
Introduction
  1. Yano's pottery studio is located on a scenic hilltop overlooking Nagoya Bay, very close to the ruins of Nagoya Castle. Nagoya in Karatsu is the site of Toyotomi Hideyoshi's base for his invasion of Korea.

It is said that many feudal lords from all over Japan and even Rikyu's residence were located here, so Nagoya was probably the center of Japan at one time. It is also said that as many as 500 warships set sail from the bay below, so many people will surely find themselves reflecting on the past.

I first met Ms. Yano in February 2012.

It was during a group exhibition of Karatsu ware at our gallery.

As the youngest member of the group exhibition, and perhaps due to his youth, I was left with a positive impression of his straightforward and honest Karatsu ware, which stood out among the exhibitors.

"Straight" might not be the most appropriate word, but that's the impression I got when I looked at Yano Karatsu ware, with its expansive and youthful texture.

Just like his work, his personality is straightforward, refreshing, and humble, and I was very impressed by him.

This time, I visited Yano Pottery Studio and spoke with Mr. Yano about various aspects of Karatsu ware.

Mr. Yano, who loves Karatsu ware, speaks passionately about his desire to recreate the style of old Karatsu ware.

I was deeply impressed by Ms. Yano's earnest eyes as she spoke about her beloved Karatsu ware, sparkling in the dazzling sunlight of Nagoya Bay, and by the way she affectionately looked at the cute kitten standing by the kiln.

This will be my first solo exhibition at our gallery, and I will be exhibiting 80 pieces including tea ceremony ceramics, sake vessels, and tableware.

To all those who love Karatsu ware, we would be grateful if you would offer your frank guidance to this young potter who has an unwavering love for Karatsu.
