| Introduction Introduction |
On a very cold afternoon in January, with light snow falling, I visited Takuro Kuwata in Tajimi City, Gifu Prefecture. Mr. Kuwata is a ceramic artist who is a little over 40 years old, and his works can be broadly divided into three categories: tea bowls, cups, and objects. A quick look at his Instagram reveals a thriving 44,000 followers, and he's no longer just Kuwata Takuro, but Kuwata Takuro, who travels the world.
This was my first visit to the newly renovated Kuwata Workshop, and I was absolutely blown away by its immense size and stylish design. The electric kiln was also covered in brushed stainless steel and matte black, and I was impressed by their unwavering commitment to design. While enjoying a delicious cup of matcha tea that he personally prepared, we had a lively conversation about various topics, including the history of the area, his passion for pottery making, and the future of his workshop.
Now, for this exhibition, our gallery's fifth in almost two years, we have titled it "Traditional Pottery," and will be presenting the latest works of tea bowls and cups that the artist hopes will be used for everyday use. I would be delighted if you would take a look at it.
In closing, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Mr. Kuwata for receiving the Japan Ceramic Society Award last autumn. I offer my heartfelt congratulations and express my deepest respect for his tireless efforts.
