Introduction
Introduction

Just before the heat became widespread, I visited Takuro Kuwata in Toki City, Gifu Prefecture, where it was still somewhat cool.

In the dappled sunlight filtering through the trees, our conversation progressed from pottery to our shared love of cars and eels.

I first met Mr. Kuwata nine years ago.

They were creating wonderful pottery with vivid colors that brighten people's spirits.

Later, through his interactions with the late Haruzo Hayashiya, Mr. Kuwata began to take up the art of tea bowls, and he frequently traveled all the way from Toki City to attend Mr. Hayashiya's tea ceremony at Shinjuku Kakiden, which was titled "Questioning the Present State of the Tea Ceremony."

He appeared on television programs with Professor Hayashiya and received very strict guidance from him regarding tea bowls. However, he sincerely faced the clay and diligently honed his skills, and at the "30 Bowls Exhibition" held at our gallery three years ago, he received a passing grade from Professor Hayashiya.

Now, in this exhibition, we will be presenting a variety of teacups and glasses, as well as, of course, our latest tea bowls.

I saw the new cups at the workshop, and I was impressed by their simple form and wonderful use of color.

One wrong step and it could have looked tacky, but they managed to strike the perfect balance, resulting in a stylish and unique piece.

With his slender physique, honed through self-discipline and rigorous training, Mr. Kuwata drives his stylish Volvo with ease.

Although August is still very hot, we would be grateful if you could offer guidance to our young potters.
