| Introduction Introduction |
July marks the transition from the period of minor heat to the period of major heat. We will be holding a solo exhibition by Yasushi Okada a Hagi ware artist. Yasushi, as the successor to the Okada Kiln, which has a 200-year history dating back to the Edo period, dedicates himself to pottery making every day and supports his father, Yutaka Yashiro.
His works can be broadly divided into two categories. One example is a unique glaze he created called "pale blue glaze," which is unlike anything seen in previous Hagi ware. Inspired by the beautiful blue of the Sea of Japan as seen from Hagi, the artist created a variety of pieces featuring a delicate light blue glaze, including tea bowls, flower vases, water pitchers, tableware, and sake vessels. Another category consists of works that adhere to the history of traditional Hagi ware potters. Both pieces feature a soft, gentle glaze, which, combined with their refined appearance, has been well-received by pottery enthusiasts.
This exhibition, the first at our gallery in four years, will feature over 60 new works, primarily focusing on our specialty tea ceremony ceramics, including pale blue glazes that create a refreshing feel perfect for the hot summer, and white Hagi glazes heavily covered with ash. I would be delighted if you would take a look at it.
