| Introduction Introduction |
The Ryuta Kiln, founded by Takashi Nakazato and Taki Nakazato , father and son who are leading figures in Karatsu ware, is located in a scenic valley within Karatsu City. This is a wonderful pottery studio that displays its beauty in every season, with a babbling stream flowing inside the kiln, and warmly welcoming travelers. And I am always deeply touched by the hospitality of the Nakazato family.
The person we're introducing today, Kenta Nakazato , is the eldest son of Taki Nakazato and the third generation of the Ryuta Kiln, who has followed the path of pottery straight and true. Last April, we held Kenta's first solo exhibition in Eastern Japan at our gallery, and thanks to everyone who loves Karatsu ware, it was a great success. I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who visited the gallery.
The appeal of Kenta's work lies in the fact that, while it's different from his grandfather's and father's, he has clearly captured the lineage from his grandfather, his pottery wheel skills are outstanding, and his pieces are exceptionally practical. As you know, the potter's wheel at Ryuta Kiln is not a typical electric potter's wheel, but a kick wheel that you turn by kicking it with your feet. Having taken drum lessons myself in the past, despite being a terrible drummer, I know just how difficult it is to move both hands and feet independently... Every time I see pottery being made using a kick wheel, I'm amazed and deeply impressed.
This exhibition, held just before Golden Week when Shinjuku is bustling with activity, will showcase my latest works of tableware and tea ceremony ceramics. We would be delighted if you would take a look at it and offer rigorous guidance to this promising young potter.
Now, ten days after writing this humble article, I will be heading to Ryuta Kiln. I'm really looking forward to seeing Kenta again.

| Biography Biography | Born in Karatsu in 1993. In 2015, he studied under his father, Taki Nakazato 2019: Three Generations of Family Exhibition at Ginza Shinkobijutsu Manyodo In 2021, I held my first solo exhibition at Gallery Tominaga in Fukuoka, and another solo exhibition at Yoyokaku in Karatsu. As a dinner party to celebrate the opening of PROPOSTA di CASA in Fukuoka La Maison de la Nature Goh produced the tableware for the course meals served by Takeshi Fukuyama. An exhibition will be held at the same venue. 2023: First solo exhibition in Eastern Japan at Kakiden Gallery, Shinjuku. |
