| Introduction Introduction |
On a chilly day in the third month of the lunar calendar, I headed to Bizen. It's been years since I last set foot in Bizen. I celebrated my reunion with Koichiro, who was beaming with a smile, and while slurping down the fragrant soba noodles he treated me to, we had a lively conversation about all sorts of things, from his recent pottery work to the SDGs. Talking with the kind-hearted Koichiro-san lifts my spirits as well. At the workshop, I enjoyed playing with the family's adorable dog while savoring a delicious cup of tea that he himself brewed. Of course, the tea bowl I received was my favorite Koichiro bowl. It was a moment when all the fatigue from my journey just vanished.
The bowl that was sent to us for the invitation to this exhibition was a masterpiece, with a fresh form that is typical of Koichiro's work, and the ash-covered scenery was also beautiful. Having been fired over a fierce fire for eight long days, this bowl was beautifully fired and, as I rotated it in my palm, I could imagine how beautifully the green of the matcha would stand out. And in this exhibition, our third at our gallery, we will be presenting 40 of our latest works, primarily focusing on tea ceremony ceramics. I understand that the kiln firing process is underway even as I write this, and I sincerely wish you success. We look forward to your visit to our gallery.
In closing, I would like to offer my sincere congratulations on receiving the Japan Ceramic Society Award for 2022. I offer my heartfelt congratulations. I am even happier than if it were my own achievement, and I express my deepest respect for Koichiro's efforts up to now, and I sincerely wish him continued prosperity.
