It was four years ago that I first visited Koichiro's studio in Ibe, Bizen City, together with ceramic artist Akira Wada . I vividly remember the feeling I had yesterday as if the fire god himself had descended upon the long, narrow kiln built on a slope, right in the middle of firing.
Time passed, and in the hot month of July, I headed back to Ibe. Koichiro greeted me with a big smile. I always think what a kind and wonderful smile it is, which perfectly reflects her personality. It seems you've been enjoying the tea ceremony lately, and I get the impression you're leading a very fulfilling life.
Now, I believe the appeal of Koichiro's work lies in its unique and impactful form. Through a sincere engagement with Bizen clay, his works, which embody both stillness and movement, possess a distinctive presence that makes them instantly recognizable as Koichiro's creations, whether they are tea bowls, flower vases, or sculptures. A few years ago, at one of our tea ceremonies, we displayed his long, narrow, staircase-like sculpture "Stairs" on a small wooden floor made by Kakiden. I placed three azalea flowers at the top of the stairs, using them as a makeshift vase, and I was quite pleased with myself for how nicely it turned out—a testament to the charm of Koichiro's work.
Our gallery is pleased to present the long-awaited first-ever exhibition of Kouichirou Isezaki work. We will be showcasing over 50 of his latest creations, including tea bowls, flower vases, and sake vessels. I would be grateful if you would take a look.

| Biography Biography | Born in 1974 in Ibe, Bizen City, as the eldest son of Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki. Graduated from Tokyo Zokei University, Department of Sculpture in 1996. 1998: Moved to the United States and studied under Jeff Japiro, a ceramic artist residing in New York. In 2000, after returning to Japan, he studied under his father, Jun Isezaki. 2009: Encouragement Award, Tanabe Museum of Art, Exhibition of Art in the Tea Ceremony. 2010 Japan Traditional Crafts Chugoku Branch Exhibition: Japan Crafts Association Award 2014 Fukutake Cultural Encouragement Award |
