| Introduction Introduction |
What comes to mind when you think of the fabrics used in the tea ceremony? Perhaps these include the mounting of hanging scrolls, the silk cloth used to accompany thick tea, the protective cloth used to wrap tea caddies and tea bowls, and the tea ceremony bag used to carry fans, kaishi paper, and other items.
The artist we're introducing today, Kazuhiro Suzuki, is an artist and textile researcher based in Kyoto, who diligently creates works using textiles. This exhibition, the first at our gallery in a year and a half, will showcase exquisite pieces used in the tea ceremony, featuring a variety of fabrics reminiscent of fukusa (a type of silk cloth used in tea ceremonies). These include exquisite modern reproductions of famous textiles and beautiful pieces designed by the artist herself, offering a profound world with a different kind of charm than pottery.
As I get older, I've become increasingly fascinated by textiles. Whenever I see someone carrying one of Ms. Suzuki's sukiyabukuro (tea ceremony pouches) at a tea ceremony or similar event, I can't help but strike up a conversation... As winter approaches and the weather gets colder, we hope you will enjoy viewing the beautiful world of tea ceremony fabrics.
