| Introduction Introduction |
We will be holding the Kazuhiro Suzuki Textile Exhibition for the first time in a year.
Dyeing and weaving refers to the techniques of dyeing and weaving cloth, while "kire" refers to fragments of ancient textiles. Mr. Kazuhiro's family has been collecting and researching textiles for three generations, since his grandfather's time. Currently, we are restoring textile designs from several hundred years ago and creating beautiful textile works such as fukusa (silk cloths), sukiyabukuro (tea ceremony bags), and Takeyamachi hanging scrolls.
As stated in the subtitle"Old Japanese printed fabric"Kowatari Sarasa is a type of dyed fabric from India that was introduced to Japan in the early 17th century."Takeyamachi"This refers to a type of fabric made in Takeyamachi, Kyoto, which is a sheer cloth adorned with gold leaf paper and colored threads. "Famous textiles"(Meibutsugire) refers to textiles that were introduced from China about 400 years ago and are prized possessions of tea masters. These are all fabrics that Kazuhiro is particularly known for.
In this exhibition, we will be presenting approximately 40 of our latest textile works using these fabrics. I cannot help but be amazed at why designs created in China and India hundreds of years ago resonate so deeply with us in the Reiwa era. | Biography Biography | Born in 1950 in Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto City (current address). Selected for the Tokyo Metropolitan Art and Craft Exhibition in 2000. 2002: Received the 17th Silk Museum Award. In 2006, I participated as editor-in-chief in the publication of "Dictionary of Famous Textiles." Solo exhibitions held at Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store and Matsuzakaya Nagoya Main Store in 2011. In 2015, the sleeves of the "Who's Sleeve" screen and the celadon vase with inlaid fabric were donated to the National Palace Museum in Taiwan. In 2019, I gave a lecture at San Francisco State University entitled "The Age of Discovery: What World Trade Brought to the Tea Ceremony." Appeared on NHK's "Historical Secrets Historia: What Does the Mysterious Teacup Tell Us?" in 2020. 2021: Featured in Tanko's "Nagomi" magazine, February issue, in an article titled "The Joy of Choosing Fabrics," and in the Nikkei Shimbun in an article titled "The Uninterrupted Beauty of 'Famous Fabrics' Favored by Tea Masters." |

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation. 1. A request to our valued customers We have placed alcohol-based hand sanitizer at the entrance of our gallery and the building. We kindly ask that you disinfect your hands upon arrival. Please wear a mask when you go out. Currently, if you have a fever or are feeling unwell, we kindly ask that you refrain from visiting the gallery. If you have visited a doctor or taken medication for fever or a cold within the past two weeks, or if you have traveled abroad, we kindly ask that you refrain from visiting the gallery. To help reduce crowding in the store, we kindly ask that you visit in small groups whenever possible. We regret to inform you that, for the time being, we will be suspending the tea service, including gyokuro tea, which we previously offered to our customers during the COVID-19 pandemic. 2. What our gallery is working on ① High-performance ventilation system "Lossnay" We installed three high-performance ventilation systems, "Lossnay" (manufactured by Mitsubishi Electric), in our gallery on January 6, 2021. This new, powerful ventilation system ensures that all the air in our gallery is replaced every 15 to 20 minutes. In addition, the entrance door is kept open at all times to ensure even better ventilation. ② Carbon dioxide concentration meter A carbon dioxide concentration meter has been installed on the counter as of April 2, 2021. Generally, our gallery's carbon dioxide meter shows readings of 450-550 ppm (the average carbon dioxide concentration indoors is approximately 1,000 ppm), so please rest assured and enjoy your time at our gallery. ③ Thermography We installed a new thermal imaging camera for visitors to our gallery on May 12, 2021. We apologize for the inconvenience, but we have placed a temperature checker at the entrance of our gallery, so we would appreciate your cooperation in having your temperature taken upon your arrival. ④ Disinfectant alcohol For hand sanitizing, I use disinfectant solution from Shiseido. It contains moisturizing ingredients that are gentle on the hands, and has been well-received by our customers. ⑤ Daily cleaning We will further strengthen our daily cleaning procedures. We regularly disinfect with alcohol-based disinfectants on surfaces that customers and staff frequently touch, such as elevator buttons, tables and chairs, entrance door and toilet handles, and brushes and pens, even during business hours. ⑥ Entry restrictions If our gallery becomes crowded with many visitors and we determine that it is becoming too close to the public, we may ask you to limit entry to the gallery. ⑦ Staff health management and PCR testing Our gallery staff will wear masks, undergo temperature checks and health monitoring, and thoroughly disinfect their hands with alcohol while serving customers. On March 30, 2021, all staff members underwent PCR testing (at Nishitan Clinic), and all tested negative. We will continue to conduct PCR tests throughout the year.
