On a day in September, when autumn is taking center stage and summer is increasingly feeling out of place, I visited Iyo Oogami in Tanba for the first time in a while.
It was sunny when we landed at Itami Airport, but by the time we reached Tamba-Sasayama, it was pouring rain, and with the windshield wipers whirring frantically, we somehow managed to arrive at the Oogami Workshop. I recall that it was pouring rain during my previous visit as well, but meeting Ms. Ogami's smiling face soothed away the fatigue of my long journey.
Iyo Oogami , from the Tanba region, one of the Six Ancient Kilns, creates fantastical lucky charms and yokai (supernatural beings) that have a different atmosphere from the ancient Tanba ware.monsterHe is a promising ceramic artist who works diligently to create his pieces. I can't help but be surprised that these charmingly whimsical creations aren't just useless objects, but rather functional items like teacups, incense burners, and sake vessels. And Ms. Ogami's humble and kind personality is surely another reason why she is loved by everyone.
Now, for this exhibition, which is the second of its kind at our gallery,"Monster Pottery Exhibition II"The exhibition features bizarre and strange creatures, such as a kirin (mythical creature) that looks as if it could start moving at any moment.MonstersWe are pleased to announce our latest work. | Biography Biography | Born in 1987 in Tamba-Tachikui, Hyogo Prefecture. Graduated from Kyoto City University of Arts, Ceramics Department in 2010. | special tea party Tea Party | ■Tea Ceremony Announcement: "Tea Ceremony in the Light Snow" We will be holding the "Kosetsu Tea Ceremony" at the tea room of Shinjuku Kakiden, located above the Kakiden Gallery. The host will be Iyo Oogami , who is currently holding a solo exhibition at Kakiden Gallery. Ms. Ogami is seriously studying the tea ceremony. Of course, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, we will implement infection prevention measures with the safety and security of all attendees as our top priority. Beginners who have never participated in a tea ceremony before are more than welcome, so please feel free to join us and enjoy a cup of tea in the heart of December. We look forward to receiving your applications. Date and Time: Friday, December 2nd, 11:00 AM (Seating) *Please arrive 15 minutes before your seat is to be seated. • Host: Iyo Oogami • Location: Shinjuku Kyo-kaiseki Kakiden (Yasuyo Building, 3-37-11 Shinjuku, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo) Reception & Donations: An'yo Hall/7th Floor → Light Tea Ceremony: Zangetsu/9th Floor → Dim Sum Ceremony: Kokin Salon/6th Floor • Membership fee: 5,000 yen (tax included). Payment will be accepted at the reception desk on the day of the event. ・Attire: Please feel free to come in comfortable clothing. • To apply, please contact us by phone or email. ▶Measures to prevent the spread of infection Please be sure to disinfect your hands with the alcohol provided at the reception desk or building entrance. Please cooperate by having your temperature taken using the thermal imaging camera installed at the reception desk. Please wear a non-woven fabric mask except when you are having tea and snacks. We would appreciate it if you would keep conversations to a minimum in the tea room.
