| Introduction Introduction |
In this cold, snowy season, we will be holding a solo exhibition by Kamakura-bori artist Kamayu Mihashi. Mr. Mihashi works diligently creating tea ceremony utensils and Buddhist altar fittings in his workshop near the Shonan coast in Kamakura. As a craftsman who works with Zen Buddhist temples, he is not only creating traditional Kamakura-bori (Kamakura carving), but also venturing into new forms of Kamakura-bori suitable for the Reiwa era.
Alongside my creative work, I am also studying the tea ceremony myself, striving to deepen my understanding of it. These days, Mr. Mihashi has deepened his friendships with many people who love the tea ceremony, and I am amazed by the breadth of his network of contacts. I believe this is a testament to Mr. Mihashi's kind and generous character.
Now, for this exhibition, which will be my first solo exhibition at our gallery, I will be presenting 40 of my latest works. I apologize for bothering you during your busy schedule, but I would be grateful if you could take a look.

| Biography Biography | Born in Kamakura in 1980. Studied under his father, Kamei Mihashi. In 2010, I received the name "Kamayu" from Abbot Masamichi Yoshida of Kencho-ji Temple. 2015: Production of incense burner stand for the four-headed tea ceremony at Kencho-ji Temple (2018: Production of front table) 2017: Exhibited at the Tobi Art Fair 2017 (Tokyo Art Club) 2018: Supervised the "Zen, Tea Ceremony, and Kamakura Carving Exhibition" hosted by Kencho-ji Temple. 2019: Creation of a large incense box for Engaku-ji Temple (commemorating the 100th anniversary of the death of Shaku Sōen and the 200th anniversary of the death of Daiyō Kokushi) A Kamakura-bori Goryeo-style table was dedicated to Tokei-ji Temple (in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the death of Shaku Sōen). In 2022, a replica of a Kamakura-bori incense box, believed to be that of Yoritomo, was donated to Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine (Kamakura). |
