This will be an online exhibition."Shigaraki - Twelve Artists' Ode to the Earth Exhibition II"This page showcases the works submitted by the following four artists.

Additionally, some artists have provided us with their thoughts and comments regarding the works exhibited in this exhibition. Unfortunately, this exhibition has had to be held online, so we hope that at least some of the creators' feelings towards their work will be conveyed to everyone. I've noted the details below each title, so I hope you'll take a look at them as well.
Online exhibition sales methodsThe details are as follows:
We will start accepting orders by phone from 11:00 AM on the first day of the exhibition, Friday, May 7th, when the gallery opens.
To maintain accuracy in the order of reception, we only accept reservations by phone; unfortunately, we cannot accept reservations by email or fax.
From May 8th (Saturday), the second day of the event, we will also accept orders via email and fax.
・The artwork you have purchased will be temporarily held at our gallery until the paulownia wood box and other necessary preparations are complete. Once the paulownia wood box arrives and the artwork is ready for delivery, we will contact you again regarding payment and shipping methods.
・For customers who will be able to visit our gallery in person, payment can be made in cash or by credit card (VISA and Mastercard only) at the store.For customers receiving delivery, we kindly request that you make a bank transfer to our gallery's bank account (Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation). Please note that during the online exhibition period of this exhibition, there will be no transfer fees to our gallery's account.
・We will deliver your order to your specified address via Japan Post's Yu-Pack service. Please note that for orders under 20,000 yen (including tax), a separate shipping fee will be charged. For orders of 20,000 yen or more (including tax), delivery is free throughout Japan.

| Biography Biography | ■ Teppei Komaki Komaki Teppei [Geometric patterns are reproduced on unglazed stoneware, based on the theme of "recalling ancient times."] Born in Ibaraki Prefecture in 1971. 1994: Graduated from Kyoto Seika University, Department of Ceramics. Moved to Shigaraki and began working for a ceramics company. Solo exhibition at Takashimaya Kyoto Store's Art and Craft Salon in 2003 (and again in 2007). In 2005, he moved to Tarao in Shigaraki Town and became independent, and built his first anagama kiln. Selected for the Kinki Exhibition of Traditional Japanese Crafts in 2006; has been selected 12 times since. 2009: Runner-up at the 23rd Banko Ceramics Competition 2010: Selected for the 4th Contemporary Tea Ceramics Exhibition In 2011, he built his second semi-underground kiln, received the Newcomer Encouragement Award at the Kinki Exhibition of Traditional Japanese Crafts, and the 22nd Shumei Cultural Foundation Award. 2020: Received an Encouragement Award at the Toubi Exhibition (21 selections), and was selected for the 67th Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition. ■Yoshihiro Sako Sako Yoshihiro [I was captivated by the way the white clay of Shigaraki changes color when exposed to the flames of a wood fire and emerges from the kiln, and that's why I came to Shigaraki. Along the way, I encountered Suzu ware on the Noto Peninsula, and now, in addition to my Shigaraki kiln, I also engage in charcoal firing in a wood-fired kiln once a year.] Born in 1971 in Miwa, Sakurai City, Nara Prefecture. In 1992, he became a disciple of Kiyoharu Tsuji and aspired to become a ceramic artist. 1995: Graduated from Ishikawa Prefectural Kutani Ware Technical Research Institute; trained in Shigaraki. Established in Shigaraki in 2000. 2009: Selected for the 56th Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition. 2010 Anagama kiln construction 2015: Selected for the 62nd Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition. 2017: Workshop at National Tainan University of the Arts, Taiwan; Selected for the 64th Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition. 2018: 29th Shumei Cultural Foundation Award, 3rd Japan Ceramic Society Encouragement Award, Kansai Exhibition Encouragement Award. In 2020, selected for the 67th Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition, and certified as a full member of the Japan Crafts Association. ■ Nozomi Shinohara Shinohara Nozomu [The fascinating qualities of Shigaraki's white, feldspar-rich clay.] Just how far can it be cooked? And I believe that this soil will produce colors I've never seen before. I'm fascinated by the vast potential of this soil. Born in Osaka Prefecture in 1972. 1991: Studied under Nobuo Furuya in Shigaraki. 1998: Completed the Glaze Department at the Shigaraki Ceramic Technology Research Institute. In 1999, established independent pottery studio in Kise, Shigaraki Town. In 2004, a new kiln was built in Iga. In 2007, he was certified as a Shigaraki ware traditional craftsman. 2012: 23rd Shumei Cultural Foundation Award 2014: Provided artwork assistance for the chapter in "Hyouge Mono" serialized in Kodansha's Morning magazine in which the character is introduced. 2017: Production in Haystack (MI) and Penland (NC), USA; Visit to Seagrove (NC). In 2019, I participated in workshops and train kiln firings at Stanford University and Utah State University. Selected for the Kinki Regional Exhibition of Traditional Japanese Crafts, and participated in numerous group exhibitions throughout Japan. ■ Rakusai Takahashi Takahashi Rakusai [When I'm taking pieces out of the kiln, sometimes I come across a piece that makes me think, "This is it." I tried firing it the same way in the next kiln, but it didn't work out. However, I believe this repetition is one of the things that makes this job interesting. Born in 1954 in Shigaraki-cho, Shiga Prefecture. 1975: Graduated from Shiga Prefectural Shigaraki Ceramic Research Institute In 1977, the Goyokai was formed under the guidance of Professor Toyozo Arakawa. 1992: Held solo exhibitions (9 times) at Kakiden Gallery. Since then, solo exhibitions have been held at Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store, Fukuoka Mitsukoshi, Osaka Takashimaya, JR Nagoya Takashimaya, Kyoto Takashimaya, and Yamaguchi Izutsuya. 2010: Succeeded to the name of Rakusai Takahashi V. 2021 "Living in Shigaraki: A Three-Person Exhibition by Rakusai Takahashi, Yoshiko Takahashi, and Akira Tao" (Kakiden Gallery) |

| Work name | Carbonized tea bowl I had the opportunity to train in Ishikawa Prefecture for a year, and that's when I encountered Suzu ware, which is made at the tip of the Noto Peninsula. I think the defining characteristic of Suzu ware is its color. Even during the cooling process, firewood is added to the kiln, filling it with carbon, which is then absorbed by the artwork, resulting in a color that transcends black and expresses even the gray of the winter sky over the Sea of Japan. Since the kiln is normally used to fire Shigaraki ware, the firing temperature is high, and some of the pieces are coated with natural glaze. This time, I focused on making tea bowls and tried using the "shinogi" and "tataki" techniques. |
