My friend, Yasushi Bishop (pen name: Daisan Nagasaka), will be holding "Daisan Nagasaka Yukoku Exhibition IV" at the Kakiden Gallery in Shinjuku early in the new year of 2021.
"Yukoku" is a unique concept of a personal logo mark, conceived by Yasushi Bishop, that is the only one of its kind in the world. It is a witty and modern engraving that breaks away from traditional and feudal Japanese conventions, possessing a sense of "narrative" and a modern, humorous quality.
Looking at these numerous "Yūkoku" works, one can't help but wonder about their owners. Needless to say, the client's face and activities emerge from the "idea-rich sculptural universe etched and created" within just a few millimeters to a few centimeters.
Incidentally, I think the person who is most intriguing is Bishop Yasushi, the versatile "Yukoku" (playful engraver) who continues to meticulously engrave in this world of engraving.

| Biography Biography | Born in 1953 into the Nagasaka family, his father and grandmother were vocalists, and his mother and grandfather were painters. 1970: Studied under stage designer Setsu Asakura. 1973: Graduated from Kuwasawa Design Institute, Department of Industrial Design. 1975: Joined Fujingaho Co., Ltd. 2011: Resigned from Hachette Fujingaho Co., Ltd. (formerly Fujingaho Co., Ltd.) 2012: Bishop Co., Ltd. established. In addition to various other jobs, I also work as a stone artist. We collaborate with various parties using hand-carved personal logos. |

If you have visited a doctor or taken medication for fever or a cold within the past two weeks, or if you have traveled abroad, we kindly ask that you refrain from visiting the gallery. To help reduce crowding in the store, we kindly ask that you visit in small groups whenever possible. We regret to inform you that we will be temporarily suspending our tea service, which we normally offer to our customers, including the gyokuro tea. 2. Our gallery's initiatives We installed a high-performance ventilation system, "Lossnay" (manufactured by Mitsubishi Electric), in our gallery on January 6, 2021. With this new ventilation system, all the air in our gallery will be replaced every 15 to 20 minutes. In addition, the entrance door will be kept open at all times. We will further strengthen our daily cleaning procedures. We regularly disinfect with alcohol on frequently touched surfaces such as elevator buttons, tables and chairs, entrance door and toilet handles, brushes and pens, even during business hours. If our gallery becomes crowded with many visitors and we determine that it is in a state of "three Cs" (closed spaces, crowded places, and close-contact settings), we may ask you to limit entry to our gallery. Our gallery staff will wear masks (but they'll be smiling underneath! ^^), and will thoroughly monitor their temperature and health while serving customers. We sincerely look forward to your visit to our gallery. |
