| Introduction Introduction |
I have known Mr. Manabu Sakai for over 40 years now, thanks to his connection with Mr. Shoan Komori, a descendant of the Akahoshi family.
His main profession is pottery, but he also carves tea scoops, is gifted with writing talent, and enjoys calligraphy and painting, making him a multi-talented artist.
He is skilled at creating reproductions of various types of authentic pottery, such as celadon from the Song dynasty, brushwork from the Joseon dynasty, and Shino, Oribe, and Kiseido from the Momoyama period. I think this dexterity is both his strength and his weakness.
There are many different ways of life for contemporary writers, but it seems he is still searching for "THE Manabu Sakai."
However, for me, someone who deals with antique tea ceremony art, touching Mr. Sakai's works somehow makes me feel relaxed.
I hope to encounter such a work this time as well.
