Introduction
Introduction

You Akiyama is one of the most outstanding ceramic artists in contemporary Japan, meticulously dedicated to creating forms that are born from clay and fire. While he has often tackled large-scale works in the past, this time, in a joint exhibition with his wife at the Kakiden Gallery, he is exhibiting works that are not only objects but also function as vessels that can hold flowers.
What is truly heartwarming is that this is a collaborative work by the couple. Yo was fully aware of Junko's delicate ornamentation, creating a smooth clay surface on the outside of the large circular vessel for Junko, while expressing his unique and richly sculpted clay on the inside. This is the first harmonious piece the couple has created together, coinciding with his 60th birthday this year. Junko's delicate Japanese-style ornamentation is especially beautiful on this occasion.
