A person who lives for the creation of white porcelain Mr. Wada is currently 34 years old, considered a young talent in the world of ceramics. I have been following his work since seeing his award-winning piece at the 2007 Japan Crafts Association New Ceramics Exhibition. His style of white porcelain, which he dares to call "white ware," shows a certain certainty and his unique individuality, despite the trial and error involved, and he has been steadily progressing without wavering. The day before yesterday, I saw his works to be exhibited at the "Contemporary Masterpieces of Tea Bowls" exhibition to be held at the Kikuchi Museum of Art in the fall, and while they are a little stiff as a vessel for drinking tea, I was pleased to see that they clearly express his view of tea bowls. Needless to say, a work of art naturally reflects the "present" state of the creator, and the works exhibited at this solo exhibition are indeed neat and pure. Haruzo Hayashiya |
| Biography Biography | Born in Chiba Prefecture in 1978. 2001: Studied under Professor Katsuji Kamitaki In 2005, I became independent. I was certified as a full member of the Japan Crafts Association. 2009: Received the Encouragement Award at the 3rd Kikuchi Biennale for the white ceramic piece "Dai/Dai". Winner of the Masuo Ikeda Award at the 20th Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition, "The! Object" category. 2010: Received the 50th East Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition Commemorative Award for the white porcelain "box". The Imperial Household Agency has purchased a white utensil, a "dai/dai". Perspectives on Contemporary Crafts: On the Tea Ceremony (The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, Crafts Gallery) 2011: Received the Grand Prize at the 6th Paramita Ceramics Grand Prize Exhibition (Yokkaichi) Recipient of the Yamaguchi Bank Award at the 24th UBE Biennale (Contemporary Japanese Sculpture Exhibition).
