I turned 70 this year. From age 25<やきもの>I started doing this, but each time I fire the kiln there is a new challenge, and I fire the kiln in search of that challenge. Forty-five years have passed with the thought, "This time for sure, this time for sure." To put it nicely, I'm "constantly trying new things," but honestly, I'd like to finally settle down into a world where I can say, "This is it!", but I'm still nowhere near the age of 40. | Biography Biography | Born in Kobe in 1943. In 1965, I moved to Tokyo with the goal of becoming a painter. In 1969, I listened to a lecture on folk art by Professor Shoji Hamada, became interested in pottery, and began making ceramics. In 1974, he moved to Nikko City (formerly Imaichi City), Tochigi Prefecture, and dedicated himself to pottery. In 1977, I met Mr. Shoan Komori and began to learn about the profound beauty of tea ceremony ceramics. Around this time, he began holding solo exhibitions in various locations. He holds solo exhibitions 3 to 5 times a year in Tokyo, Utsunomiya, Mashiko, Osaka, Kobe, and other locations. |
