Akio Niisato is a rising young ceramic artist who has gained high acclaim both in Japan and overseas for his uniquely evolved "Koki" technique, a type of firefly glaze. His popularity is evident from the workshops and artist residencies he has held at places like the Harvard Art Center (USA), the Leach Pottery (UK), and the Sauri Museum (Italy). "Koki" is a unique style of expression constructed from three elements: a refined form created on the potter's wheel, a sense of speed in raising the clay, and graphical pointillism on white porcelain.
