Introduction
Introduction

Kashihara Shrine in Nara Prefecture is dedicated to Emperor Jimmu. In this Kashihara area, Mr. Kawasaki Hōgaku is a wood and bamboo craftsman whose family has been engaged in wood and bamboo work, such as shrine carpentry, joinery, and woodworking, for generations.
His meticulous and elegant works have become even more refined in recent years, and are now supported by many who enjoy the tea ceremony.
This solo exhibition, our first in a long time, will feature new tea ceremony utensils such as natsume (tea caddy), kōgō (incense container), mizusashi (water container), chashaku (tea scoop), and furosaki byōbu (folding screen for the brazier). We would be delighted if you could come and see them.

While I was making a 1/80 scale model of the East Pagoda of Yakushiji Temple, I received advice from the late Abbot Hashimoto Gyoin of Yakushiji Temple, which led me to pursue the path of tea ceremony utensils, and that's how I got to where I am today.
In 1987, when Empress Michiko visited the prefecture, a cherry blossom incense box was presented to her.
