| Introduction Introduction |
"To cherish small things..." Toshinari Ogawa, who creates small objects in Hino City, Tokyo, will be exhibiting his first solo exhibition with themes of adornment [obi clasps, obi ornaments, hair clips], enjoyment [tea ceremony utensils such as incense boxes, tea scoops, lid rests, and sweet picks], and play [pen rests, tanzaku hangers], showcasing small and charming items. | Biography Biography | Born in Yokohama in 1955. In 1973, he studied under Buddhist sculptor Tokuma Yui and under Chisho Fukushima of the Dai Nippon Chado Gakkai (Great Japan Tea Ceremony Society) in the tea ceremony. In 1975, I became a lay practitioner of Zen meditation at Seikō Zenji Temple in Yamanashi Prefecture, studying under Sōtetsu Kanemaru and also under Master Sōgen Ōmori (Master of the International Zen Dojo). In 1985, I opened Sculpture Studio 0 in Hino City, Tokyo. Alongside his own creative work, he spent 18 years at the request of art museums, assisting artists with their creative processes and setting up exhibition venues. We create original stationery items such as clip holders and brush holders that combine traditional arts and crafts with modern designs and Japanese playfulness, as well as Japanese clothing accessories such as obi clasps and obi ornaments, and tea ceremony utensils. Her works have been exhibited at Penbtech Aoyama Study Hall, Haneda Airport Discovery Museum (Eisei Bunko) shop, and Ginza Kyukyodo. |
