| Introduction Introduction |
Makoto Suzuki specializes in creating ornately decorated pottery. The works incorporate the results of research into the decorative techniques of ancient pottery from around the world, but by adding a modern twist, they create a world of pottery unlike anything anyone has ever seen before.
She says her fascination with ancient pottery began in 2016 when she saw a Negatian-patterned pottery piece made in Churcanas, Peru, at the National Museum of Ethnology. Soon after, he immersed himself in pottery making, recreating ancient techniques. He successively researched techniques such as negative pattern creation using smoking, gold and silver decoration on pottery, and polishing and dark pattern techniques on the surface of vessels, and applied the results to his own works.
Furthermore, based on these research results and artwork creations, she was awarded a doctoral degree from Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts in March of this year. We hope that through this exhibition, you will enjoy the world of ancient yet new pottery created by Suzuki.

| Biography Biography | Born in 1995 Graduated from Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts, Faculty of Fine Arts and Crafts, Department of Crafts, Ceramics Field in 2018. Selected for the 2019 Arita International Ceramic Exhibition. Women's Ceramics Exhibition, Asahi Shimbun Award (2020 Contemporary Art and Culture Promotion Foundation Award) Completed graduate studies at Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts, Graduate School of Fine Arts, Department of Lifestyle Design, Crafts Specialization, Ceramics Laboratory. 2020-2024: Completed doctoral program in artistic expression at the Graduate School of Arts and Culture, Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts. 2023: Studied abroad at the University of Milan-Bicocca (Italy) Hagi Grand Prize Exhibition VI: Contemporary Ceramics - Selected Japan Ceramic Society Contemporary Ceramics Encouragement Award, Kyushu/Okinawa Exhibition Encouragement Award 2024: Educational Assistant Specialist, Ceramics Field, Crafts Major, Faculty of Fine Arts and Crafts, Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts |
