| Introduction Introduction |
We are holding an exhibition of works by Arita ceramic artist Akio Momota for the first time in two years. Akio Momota was born in Arita, a town famous for its porcelain, and his family runs a porcelain wholesale business called "Momota Touen." He himself works as a porcelain artist, throwing pottery on the wheel every day. I recently visited Arita for the first time in a while, and I was impressed by his constant, gentle smile, as he is roughly the same age as me. |
| Biography Biography | Born in 1971 in Arita Town, Saga Prefecture. Graduated from Arita Technical High School, Ceramics Department, in 1990 (Heisei 2). 1991: Received instruction in pottery wheel techniques from Mr. Shiro Soejima. 1993: Selected for the Saga Prefecture Art Exhibition; subsequently selected twice more. 1994: Became a student of Professor Shun'emon Okugawa. 1995 (Heisei 7): Akatsuki Kiln opened. 1996: Awarded at the Western Japan Craft Exhibition. Subsequently, awarded four more times and had thirteen selections. 2000: Received an award at the Issuikai Ceramics Exhibition. Subsequently, received awards twice more and had works selected five times. 2003: Selected for the Izushi Porcelain Triennale. 2004: Exhibited at the German Arita Ceramics Exhibition. 2009: Selected for the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition; subsequently selected 10 times. 2010: Awarded at the Kyushu Yamaguchi Ceramics Exhibition. Subsequently, awarded five more times and had works selected eight times. Solo exhibitions will be held at Nihonbashi Takashimaya, Yokohama Takashimaya, Fukuoka Mitsukoshi, and Kakiden Gallery. |
