| Introduction Introduction |
My friend, Chiharu Ima, considers Kiyoharu Tsuji, one of the five leading figures in the Japanese ceramics world and a pioneer of Shigaraki ware, as her mentor. Now, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the opening of her kiln, she has decided to lay bare her soul here to seek your rigorous evaluation. And so, I, too, have decided to come along, albeit with some humility. Ima's collection of pottery exudes grandeur, strength, and a captivating charm that doesn't pander to people or objects. It is a reflection of Ima Chiharu himself. While it possesses a raw, almost primal spirit that seeks to conquer even the earth and the kiln's flames, it also exudes a warmth that radiates from it when you hold it in your hands, making you want to drink sake and eat a meal. Alright everyone, please take a look. Actor Susumu Kurobe |
