| Introduction Introduction |
What kind of moon do you all prefer? I'm more drawn to the moon on the sixteenth or seventeenth night of the lunar month than the full moon, and to the moon peeking through the clouds than the moon visible through a clear sky.
This time, we'd like to introduce Tomoko Takahashi, a promising ceramic artist who is captivated by the moon. The piece is made of porcelain, but it is decorated with such beautiful and meticulous patterns that the white base material is almost completely hidden. The continuous pattern evokes a subtle sense of exoticism, and I feel that the exquisite embellishment is the true essence of Tomoko's work. My latest creations are "Shu-Kousai," which features intricate patterns in black and gold, and "Suiko-sai," which also boasts a beautiful green hue. I particularly love the pale green color of these two pieces.
Now, back to the main topic. My current favorite snack to go with drinks is the extra-thin buttered peanuts from Fukuya, a famous shop in Yachimata City, which Tomoko introduced to me. I occasionally enjoy a beer or gin as a nightcap, and these rich and sweet buttered peanuts pair exceptionally well with either.
Now, for our gallery's first exhibition, titled "Moon Pavilion," we will be presenting 150 works, including our latest tea ceremony ceramics, inspired by the moon. Tomoko, with her gentle smile, will be at the gallery every day, so we would be delighted if you could come and see the works. So, what should we have for a nightcap tonight? Of course, peanuts would be the perfect accompaniment, and for background music, how about a jazzy rendition of "Fly Me to the Moon"...?
