For the past six years, I have been holding tea ceremonies in the Zangetsu Room of Kakiden, selecting and combining works by contemporary artists, with the aim of "questioning the present regardless of school or style."
It was Ei Tamamura who created the innovative folding screen used in the tea ceremony, bringing a fresh atmosphere to the tea room.
My first encounter with Tamamura's furosaki (folding screen) was through a piece exhibited at the Tanko Biennale, which was organized by Tankosha. Even then, I was deeply impressed by its outstanding expressive power. In recent years, however, the expressive power of Tamamura's furosaki has deepened and become even more refined, and I would say that I am currently obsessed with Tamamura's furosaki.
This is because his ideas are extremely free, he puts ingenuity into the construction of his folding screens, and he constantly approaches his work with a creative spirit.
As a dyer by trade, his forte is dyeing fabrics and threads, but what other works will he present at this solo exhibition besides the screen paintings?
Just as outstanding works have emerged outside the tradition of folding screens used in tea ceremonies, there are high expectations for his first solo exhibition at Kakiden Gallery, "The Radiance of Silk [The Beauty of Subtle Colors]."
