| Introduction Introduction |
Kyou Tsuji was a pioneering female ceramic artist in Japan. She created elegant and distinctive pottery, such as those with a powder-glazed finish, and together with her partner, the renowned Japanese ceramic artist Seimei Tsuji , she was also a gourmet.
At Kyou Tsuji exhibition two years ago, his eldest daughter, Kei, arranged safflower that she had brought from Yamagata Prefecture in the venue. On the final day of the exhibition, a swallowtail butterfly emerged from the safflower. I still vividly remember the moving scene of its emergence in our gallery, as if it happened yesterday.
This exhibition, inspired by the感動 (deep emotion) of the previous exhibition about the birth of butterflies, has been given the subtitle "Tefutefu" and will primarily feature pottery pieces that Kyo has been enthusiastically working on, using "butterflies" as a motif. Her son, abstract painter Fumio, will display his own works, adding a touch of beauty to his mother's art, and her second daughter, harpist Fumiko, is scheduled to play gentle melodies at the venue.
There is no doubt that Ms. Kyo is watching over the children's achievements with a smile, alongside the butterflies she loved so much. We apologize for holding the exhibition in the middle of the hot season, but we would be grateful if you could enjoy it.
