| Introduction Introduction |
As the novel coronavirus spreads worldwide, people in Tokyo continue to live their lives avoiding the "three Cs" (closed spaces, crowded places, and close contact). This virus divides and isolates people. However, we must overcome this difficult situation through solidarity and cooperation. I believe that after the COVID-19 pandemic subsides, art and crafts rooted in the Japanese view of nature will attract attention all over the world.
Therefore,The theme for this event is "The Radiance of Life."I decided on that. We hope that by experiencing the atmosphere created by the forms, which are expressed with a Japanese view of nature, and the energy emanating from the colors, we can all feel energized.
Mayu Saito's "Sky" is her first work as an independent artist. Through delicate lines drawn in soft, muted colors and organic forms imbued with a sense of life, she depicts a dream of the heavens.
Ryo Sato's "Colored Hexagonal Vase 'Shimotsukiyo'" is a work inspired by "Shimotsukiyo," a seasonal word for the eleventh month of the lunar calendar, and the many thin lines represent particles of moonlight. It reminds me of Takako Hashimoto's haiku, "Shimotsukiyo / The gap in the door is thin and thin."
Masahito Tajima is always challenging himself. His "Colored Glazed Vase" expresses the subtitle "The Radiance of Life," layering multiple colors such as yellow, green, and blue within a deep purple to create a mysterious glow.
Naoto Tabata's "Gecko Sake Bottle" features a gecko, said to protect the home and bring good fortune, clinging to the vessel. The gecko's design is created by shading it with Noto Gosu (a type of cobalt blue pigment) and then coloring it with diluted Kutani yellow-green.
Masami Nakata's "SEN tea bowl" is a tea bowl made using the ball-shaping technique. After applying black slip to a white clay body and carefully scraping away lines with a needle, a turquoise glaze is applied.
Fukunaga Ikuo's "Blue-glazed Tea Bowl with Detailed Dragon and Phoenix Design" is captivating with its dignified pattern and exquisite overglaze decoration. Within the Seigaiha wave pattern, the dragon, the leader of the Four Auspicious Symbols, and the phoenix, the auspicious bird of the Four Auspicious Symbols, are depicted.
Masayasu Mitsuke is currently one of the most popular ceramic artists. His "Red Enamel Fine-Lined Small Pattern Ceramic Box" combines a small pattern woven from extremely fine red lines with the blue and gold accents of Kutani ware, creating a unique world of his own.
Shigemasa Minami's "Kumibachi Renba" is a set of five pots. The pale green color, known as Minami Green, is made from crushed malachite from Africa.
After studying contemporary art at Goldsmiths College, University of London, Haruhi Muta became fascinated by overglaze enamel and became a Kutani ware ceramic artist. This "Dragon Lidded Container" dynamically depicts a blue dragon rising from the waves.
Masato Tanishiki's "Lion's Head Incense Box (Corona Exorcism)" is inspired by the lion's heads that were made in Ise Province in the early 16th century to ward off famine and disease. When you open the lid of the incense box, you will find a jewel painted inside.
Yoshida Yukihiro's "Kinrande Colored Vase" is created by applying multiple layers of overglaze paint, and finally, gold paint and gold leaf are applied to express a modern design.
From this year onward, Jun Takegoshi, Kazuo Nakata, and Takeyama Fukushima will be exhibiting their works as advisors.
