| Introduction Introduction |
We would like to invite you to an exhibition by four female ceramic artists.
Although they studied at different places, they became close friends through fate and are also in a relationship where they inspire and challenge each other. The exhibition title, "Four Vessels for All Seasons - Nagatsuki -," was chosen by the four artists to represent their individual vessels, the month of Nagatsuki (september), and the fact that they are all friends who have worked hard at pottery for many years. I've also been fortunate enough to have these young women keep me company, and we've continued drinking together for many years...
The materials are divided into earthenware and porcelain, but the patterns and designs may be common to both. However, each has its own unique characteristics and strategies, so I hope you'll compare them.
Enjoy the expressions of each artist using their respective techniques: Arimitsu uses colored glaze, Izumi uses shadow blue, Uchiyama uses overglaze painting, and Hayashi uses slip-trailing.
Pottery work often involves a lot of physical labor, which can be very difficult for women, but these four women persevere in their creative endeavors.
I hope you will take a look at how everyone works so hard, without showing any signs of their struggles.

| Biography Biography | ■ Shizue Arimitsu Arimitsu Shizue Born in Kawaguchi, Saitama Prefecture in 1973. Completed graduate studies at Saitama University in 2002. 2008: Established a workshop in Kawaguchi City, Saitama Prefecture. 2009: Selected for the East Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition Selected for the 2010 Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition. ■ Sayaka Izumi Izumi Sayaka Born in Sapporo in 1974. 1996: Selected for the Rokkatei Northern Confectionery Exhibition. 1997: Completed the research program in the Department of Life Arts, Faculty of Japanese Culture, Meisei University. 2008: Established and became the director of the pottery studio "Rare" in Sagamihara City, Kanagawa Prefecture. 2016 Ishikawa Prefecture, Kaga City Snow Design Award, Honorable Mention Selected for the 2018 East Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition. ■ Midori Uchiyama Uchiyama Midori Born in Tokyo in 1976. Graduated from Wako University, Faculty of Humanities, Department of Arts in 1999. Built a kiln in Nerima Ward, Tokyo in 2000. 2004: Selected for the Traditional Crafts New Works Exhibition 2015 Ceramics Exhibition Selected Selected for the 2018 Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition. ■ Tsugumi Hayashi Hayashi Tsugumi Born in Machida, Tokyo in 1975. 2001: Completed graduate studies in Ceramics at Tokyo University of the Arts. Selected for the 2013 Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition. 2014 Ceramics Exhibition Selected 2019 Toubi Exhibition Encouragement Award Currently, I am a full member of the Japan Crafts Association and a member of the Japan Ceramic Art Association. |

A request to our valued customers We have placed alcohol-based hand sanitizer at the entrance of our gallery and the building. We kindly ask that you disinfect your hands upon arrival. Please wear a mask whenever possible when you go out. Currently, if you have a fever or are feeling unwell, we kindly ask that you refrain from visiting the gallery. If you have visited a doctor or taken medication for fever or a cold within the past two weeks, or if you have traveled abroad, we kindly ask that you refrain from visiting the gallery. To help reduce crowding in the store, we kindly ask that you visit in small groups whenever possible. We regret to inform you that we will be temporarily suspending our tea service, which we normally offer to our customers, including the gyokuro tea. 2. Our gallery's initiatives We will be taking extra care to ventilate our gallery. In addition to using exhaust fans, we will keep the entrance door open at all times. We will further strengthen our daily cleaning procedures. We regularly disinfect with alcohol on frequently touched surfaces such as elevator buttons, tables and chairs, entrance door and toilet handles, brushes and pens, even during business hours. If our gallery becomes crowded with many visitors and we determine that it is in a state of "three Cs" (closed spaces, crowded places, and close-contact settings), we may ask you to limit entry to our gallery. Our gallery staff will wear masks (but they'll be smiling underneath! ^^), and will thoroughly monitor their temperature and health while serving customers.
