The works of the Rusu and Ichioka couple both seem to express the deepest parts of themselves as artists, which is very satisfying. I believe the reason for their success lies not only in their solid technical skills, but also in the attitude they have towards working with materials.
The objects in the background are created by melting and welding iron rods with a fine flame, and the forms emerge as discoveries are made along the way. This job is less about creating something and more about playing with materials. By intimately interacting with the materials, the sensory organs of the mind become highly responsive, and form is born. This exhibition will feature works that differ from welding, such as cylindrical vases created by cutting and tearing thin sheets of iron and joining them together to explore the movement of iron, as well as iron bowls made by shaping iron sheets into a bowl form, water droppers, and molten patterns.
Meanwhile, Ichioka breaks away from conventional notions of tea caddies and attempts to mimic famous tea caddies. The shape of the tea caddy is constructed from copper, and the patterns are expressed using silver and tin. It is a form of beauty that can only be expressed through the technique of metalworking, and it is also the pure self-expression (art) that Ichioka aims for.

Completed graduate studies in Fine Arts at Tama Art University in 2002.
