On a very cold day in February, I visited the Hosokawa family home in Kurokami, Kumamoto City. Drawn in by the fragrant scent of plum blossoms, I made my way through the grounds and found the red plum trees in magnificent full bloom. Meeting Mr. Gokou's kind smile made the fatigue of my long journey to Higo disappear.
Perhaps due to his virtuous character, he is extremely busy with work for his hometown of Kumamoto, and in March he will be performing the tea ceremony at the Kumamoto edition of the Omotesenke Domonkai National Convention. In addition to his sincere approach to pottery making, I was deeply impressed by his unwavering dedication to the path of the tea ceremony.
Now, in this exhibition, which is being held for the first time in three years, I will be presenting my latest works, including tea bowls, tea caddies, flower vases, water containers, and sake vessels, which have recently gained even more elegance and style. Furthermore, a tea ceremony hosted by Mr. Gokou, which I have long desired, will be held in the tea room upstairs at the Kakiden Gallery. We would be delighted if you would join us there as well.
Last year, Mr. Goko was appointed chairman of the "Tea Ceremony Enthusiasts' Club" which is run by our company. The position of chairman has been held by my grandfather and father, and now it will be the third generation of the Hosokawa family to hold the position, for which I express my heartfelt gratitude. In the Reiwa era, I hope that we can all work together, with Chairman Gokou at the helm, to further promote the culture of tea ceremony and traditional crafts. | Biography Biography | Born in 1972 After working at Doraku Kiln in Mie Prefecture and Futoan in Yugawara, Kanagawa Prefecture, he opened his own kiln in Kumamoto in 2005. Since then, solo exhibitions have been held throughout Japan. |

[Information regarding tea service] Instead of canceling the spring equinox tea ceremony, we will be offering tea every day during the exhibition period, as detailed below. Depending on the circumstances at the time, Mr. Gokou himself may serve tea to everyone on the days he is present at the gallery (March 25th-27th). Some of the utensils that were intended for use in the tea ceremony will also be on display in our gallery, so we would be delighted if you could come and visit. • Date and Time: March 25th (Wed) to 27th (Fri), 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM daily • Location: Inside Kakiden Gallery • Membership fee: 500 yen per person (tax included) We will serve you a main sweet (made by Fujimaru in Dazaifu, Kyushu) and a cup of light green tea (packaged by Hoshino Tea Garden in Yame, Kyushu). ■In serving tea, we will implement the following measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The tea bowls used for serving tea will be sterilized by boiling. We will ensure thorough ventilation within our gallery. We will constantly circulate fresh air using air conditioners. Alcohol-based hand sanitizer is available at the entrance to our gallery and the building. Please feel free to use it. We will thoroughly disinfect all surfaces that customers touch (tables and chairs, door handles, brushes and pens) with alcohol. ・In the unlikely event that our gallery becomes overcrowded with many visitors and we determine that there is a risk of close contact, we may ask you to limit entry to our gallery. Our gallery staff may wear masks when serving you. |
