Introduction
Introduction

Wakao is a ceramic artist who will turn 60 this year and is diligently working on creating "Seiji" in Tajimi City, Gifu Prefecture.

Even though we refer to it simply as "seiji," there are two types: "seiji" made from earthenware clay and "seiji" made from porcelain clay. Ms. Wakao makes seiji using earthenware clay.

Among his celadon pieces, his specialty is "funseiji," which is made by applying a thick layer of glaze to a brown clay body, resulting in an opaque, pale blue color.

His celadon pieces, with their gently undulating bodies and beautifully blue glaze, exude an indescribable charm, complemented by the crackle glaze.

I recently visited Mr. Wakao in Tajimi. He's a cheerful gentleman who laughed heartily and said he'd like to try his hand at Shino ware again someday.

This exhibition, my first solo show at our gallery, will feature over 60 works, primarily celadon pieces. I would be delighted if you could come and see them.
