Introduction
Introduction

I first met Ms. Ota nearly 10 years ago. It was when I attended the graduation and completion project presentations by students of Aichi Prefectural University of the Arts, together with the late Professor Haruzo Hayashiya.

At the time, Professor Ota was a professor in the ceramics department of the university, and I was struck by his strict and determined gaze as he diligently instructed his students, as well as his gentle and warm gaze towards us.

His workshop is located in Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture, and his works, featuring beautiful underglaze blue porcelain, have earned him a strong reputation among pottery enthusiasts.

Even within the category of blue in underglaze blue porcelain, there are many different shades of blue. If you look at the blue in Ota's work above, you can see a variety of blues depending on the shade and the amount of red in it.

Previously, she meticulously depicted flowers and plants swaying in the wind, but recently her style has shifted towards more modern paintings.

The other day, on a still-hot afternoon, I visited Mr. Ota's workshop and we had a wonderful time chatting about all sorts of things.

Since retiring from his professorship at Aichi Prefectural University of the Arts, he seems to be enjoying even more fulfilling and wonderful days with his wife and beloved dog, Nana.

I would be grateful if you would take a look at it.
