| Introduction Introduction |
I visited Zushi on a breezy afternoon. I love the Shonan area, so I get excited whenever I head to places like Zushi or Kamakura. We enjoyed a delightful time with Mr. and Mrs. Tadao Kawasaki at a stylish restaurant along the coast, savoring delicious food along the way. As we talked, I could really feel how much he loves his hometown of Zushi and pottery.
Mr. Kawasaki is a veteran ceramic artist who continues to create pottery in Zushi. The works include pieces with underglaze blue, polychrome, verdigris, and overglaze decoration called "hanezu," and the meticulously and beautifully painted images of flowers and birds on white porcelain vessels are eye-catching. His brushwork has become more refined, and am I the only one who feels as if the swaying grass, flowers, and birds in the wind are about to come to life at any moment? I absolutely love the ephemeral and gentle atmosphere of these paintings.
Now, for this exhibition, my first solo exhibition at our gallery, I will be presenting over 70 of my latest works, including plates, bowls, and cups. Ms. Kawasaki, who always has a gentle smile on her face, will be present at the gallery every day, so we would be delighted if you could come and see the exhibition, even though it is the height of August.
