The passion and skill put into white porcelain
Rekkou Kubota 's white and celadon porcelain works, born from his aesthetic sense and delicate technique, possess a unique freshness and dignified elegance. They also leave a sharp, almost sword-like impression. Somehow, as you look at them, your heart is cleansed, and a warmth seems to spread to your skin. There is a vast, healing quality reminiscent of a great river.
I first encountered his work when he was selected for the first time at the Japan Ceramics Exhibition, which I was involved in organizing. Now, as his career shows, he is a leading figure in the world of ceramics, but his talent was evident from a young age, and he is an artist I have been keeping an eye on.
When Marco Polo brought white porcelain back to Europe from China, many people were amazed and longed for it, but it was difficult to obtain. Venetian glassmakers, driven by a passionate desire to meet this demand and persistent research, finally invented a milky white glass that resembled white porcelain.
Last autumn, we met again at our museum after a long time, and I was very happy to see that he hadn't changed at all, and to witness his honesty, lovable personality, and unwavering convictions.
Just like the master craftsmen of Venice, an insatiable passion for challenge is the lifeblood of this artist's creation. My expectations for Mr. Retsuko's passion and skill in creating white porcelain are high, and I am very much looking forward to this exhibition.

| Biography Biography | Born in 1952 in Hitoyoshi City, Kumamoto Prefecture. 1982 & 1990: Kyushu & Yamaguchi Ceramic Exhibition - 1st Place & Minister of Education Award 2001 Japan Ceramics Exhibition: Excellent Work Award, Mainichi Shimbun Award 2002: Kumamoto Prefectural Cultural Award Special Prize, Kumamoto Prefectural Cultural Roundtable Award Invited to exhibit at the Japan Ceramics Exhibition in 2005. 2008 Western Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition, Asahi Shimbun Grand Prize In 2010, he adopted the artistic name "Rekko" and the shop name "Yuto Kiln". 2011 Western Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition: Japan Crafts Association Western Branch Chief's Award Selected for the Japan Ceramics Exhibition in 2015 (11 times in total), designated as a "Traditional Craft of Kumamoto Prefecture".
