We are delighted that Peter Harmon will be holding a solo exhibition at Kakiden Gallery.
My relationship with Peter Harmon goes back a long way, to my father's generation, the thirteenth generation. He has a friendly personality and is very dedicated to his research. From what I hear, he has been in Japan for about forty years. He was captivated by the nature of Tanba Sasayama, renovated an old farmhouse, loves pottery and the tea ceremony, loves Japanese traditions more deeply than we do, and is challenging the modern world. The artwork is appealing because, despite its sharp form, it has a gentle texture that reflects the artist's personality.
Furthermore, the appreciation for the beauty of "utility" and the importance placed on "using" things in Japan is profound and significant, reminding us of the original Japanese attitude that has been forgotten in modern society.
I am really looking forward to encountering Peter Harmon's sensibility towards nature and tradition at this exhibition.
Imaizumi Imaemon XIV
I was very glad when I heard that Peter Hamann will be holding a solo exhibition of his work at the Kakiden Gallery.
Peter has had close contact with the Imaemon family for many years starting with my father, Imaizumi Imaemon XIII. He has a very amiable personality and is enthusiastic in studying his art. I understand that it has been nearly 40 years since he first came to Japan. He fell in love with the natural beauty of Tamba Sasayama, where he has renovated an old Japanese house. He loves ceramics and the Japanese Tea Ceremony, and deeply loves Japanese traditions even more than we Japanese do. He still continues to challenge himself in his work today. His work features very sharp forms that also charm the viewer with a sense of his congenial personality.
What is more, Peter has a deep and reverent consciousness of functional beauty as part of Japanese culture and the importance of utility, and by doing so reminds us a traditional attitude that is forgotten in modern Japan.
I am looking forward to experiencing the sensitivities he expresses in his work as he confronts nature and tradition.

| Biography Biography | Peter Hamann Born in 1956 in Nebraska, USA. Graduated from Graceland University, Department of Fine Arts in 1978. 1981 Arrival in Japan Graduated from the advanced course of the Ceramics Research Institute attached to the Tekisui Art Museum in 1985. Established in Sasayama City in 1988. In 1995, she received the Nikkei Shimbun Award at the 24th Kinki Traditional Crafts Exhibition and the Encouragement Award at the 3rd Flower Pottery Exhibition (Saga Goryu). 1996: 51st Shinsho Craft Exhibition Associate Member Award, Kyoto Prefectural Governor's Award 1999 Issuikai Ceramics Club Encouragement Award 2015: Encouragement Award at the 32nd Tabe Museum of Art Grand Prize "Tea Ceremony Art Exhibition" Numerous selections and awards at exhibitions such as the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition, the Japan Ceramics Exhibition, and the Tabe Museum Grand Prize Tea Ceremony Art Exhibition. Currently a full member of the Japan Crafts Association. | special tea party Tea Party | ■Koma ('small room') Tea Ceremony A small tea ceremony will be held in the tea room above the Kakiden Gallery, with Peter Harmon, who practices the Yabuuchi school of tea ceremony, serving as the host. Beginners who have never participated in a tea ceremony before are more than welcome, so please feel free to come and enjoy a brief moment of tea. Peter Hamann will host a tea ceremony in a tea room above the gallery. He practices Yabunouchi-school tea. We welcome anyone who wants to participate in this tea ceremony regardless of previous knowledge or Experience. Please come and enjoy the peaceful environment of Koma (Wabi) tea. • Host: Muneyoshi Itani (Peter Harmon) Host:Itani Sougen (Peter Hamann's Japanese name) • Date and Time: Friday, April 5th and Saturday, April 6th. Seating times on both days are 11:00, 12:00, 13:00, and 14:00.
