My kiln is an original "downdraft kiln," where the flames go all the way to the back, return to the front, and exit through the chimney. It's a unique kiln that uses firewood to create kiln variations, and the firing process is also very dramatic, as firewood is placed directly on top of the pieces during firing. Makoto Hashimoto |
| Biography Biography | Born in Kobe in 1943. 1965: Moved to Tokyo with the goal of becoming a painter. 1969: I listened to Shoji Hamada's lecture on folk art, became interested in pottery, and began making ceramics. 1974: Moved to Nikko City (formerly Imaichi City), Tochigi Prefecture, and dedicated himself to pottery. In 1977, I met Mr. Shoan Komori and began to learn about the beauty of tea ceramics. Around this time, he began holding solo exhibitions in various locations. He holds solo exhibitions 3 to 5 times a year in Tokyo, Utsunomiya, Mashiko, Osaka, Kobe, and other locations. |
