As you all know, there are ten craftsmen known as the Senke Ten Craftsmen. Among them is the Tsuchida family, who are bag makers. The Tsuchida family is a lineage that inherited all the secrets of their family business, including the "Iigoken" scroll bestowed upon them by Sotan, from Sori, the third generation of the Kameoka family, who were Rikyu's bag makers. The head of the family is named Hanshiro, and his retirement name is Tomoko. This time, the 13th head of the family, Hanshiro, and his younger brother, the ceramic artist Ken, will be holding a joint exhibition. The theme of the brothers' exhibition is the Tsuchida family crest, "bamboo and笹 (sasa) grass." This is truly a theme befitting the continuation of tradition. While preserving the spirit and skills cultivated in the environment in which the Tsuchida brothers were born and raised, they will create something that suits the times with a new sensibility and pass it on to future generations. I believe that this will become a tradition and continue to live on. The Tsuchida family tradition has taken on a new form, incorporating both textiles, which are part of their family business, and new creations born from the earth. These works will now be showcased at the Kakiden Gallery. In addition to their individual works, the collection also includes collaborative pieces such as Ken's tea caddy with Hanshiro's silk pouch, Ken's work with Hanshiro's painting on a bowl, and a tea bowl made by Hanshiro. In this era where Japanese culture is disappearing from our lives, I hope that viewing the works of these two artists will provide some clues for reconsidering it. We invite you to take your time and enjoy the exhibition at Kakiden Gallery, a cultural oasis that can be described as a mountain retreat in the heart of the city. | Biography Biography | □ Hanshirou Tsuchida Tsuchida Hanshiro Born in Kyoto in 1968 as the eldest son of the twelfth generation Tsuchida Yuko. 1991: Graduated from Kyoto Junior College of Art, Advanced Course in Film Studies. In 2014, he inherited the family business as the 13th generation bag maker Hanshirou Tsuchida □ Takeshi Tsuchida Tsuchida Takeshi Born in Kyoto in 1972 as the second son of the twelfth generation Tsuchida Yuko. In 2007, the "Choyuki Kiln" was established in Oisawa, at the foot of Mt. Gassan. In 2014, Director Kinoshita of the Kitamura Museum named it "Oisawa-yaki". |
