Introduction
Introduction

Time flies, and our gallery is now holding its fifth Nami Takahashi exhibition. We are truly grateful to everyone for their support.

For the past few years, Nami has attended almost every tea ceremony held at Shinjuku Kakiden, which was organized by the late Haruzo Hayashiya using only modern tea ceremony utensils, and has strived to absorb even a little of his aesthetic sense.

There were times when Ms. Hayashiya gave her strict reprimands and encouragement at this tea ceremony, but I think that through her interactions with Mr. Hayashiya, Ms. Nami carefully considered, pondered, and created the "flavor of tea" and the millimeter-level "space" that he spoke of, and steadily climbed the ladder of success.

Recently, he has been winning awards at various open-call exhibitions, and I am pleased to see that his work has become more refined in form and has gained a deeper appreciation for tea.

Coincidentally, at the "Contemporary Tea Ceremony Ceramics Exhibition" in Toki City, Gifu Prefecture, where Professor Hayashiya had served as the head of the judging panel for many years, her white porcelain water jar won the grand prize this year.

If Professor Hayashiya were the head of the judging panel, I can picture him narrowing his eyes and beaming with a big smile, saying, "Well done."

Having reached a certain level of mastery, I can't wait to see how Nami will continue to challenge the clay and strive for even greater heights in the future.

Nami-san smiled and said that one day, when the time is right, she would like to hold a tea ceremony in her tea room.

I apologize for doing this in the middle of the hot season, but I would be grateful if you could take a look at these beautiful and dignified "white shadows."
