On a beautiful spring day, I visited Setsuko Araki 's elegant home and studio on a hill in Tsurumi and spent a pleasant afternoon chatting with her.
Now, for this exhibition, our gallery's first in three years, we have given it the subtitle "To the Sea." As the saying goes, the color of the sea reflects the color of the sky, and the sea appears to change in various ways from deep ultramarine to emerald green.
Her latest work, which I saw in her workshop and which embodies her passion, is truly like the ocean, featuring a modern and beautiful pattern that allows you to enjoy a variety of shades of blue. Whenever I see Setsuko's work, I always appreciate the unique atmosphere that only she can create.
This exhibition will feature my signature dyed obi sashes, perfect for the upcoming season, as well as wall hangings and other works. Furthermore, four glass and metalwork artists with whom Setsuko is close friends will be exhibiting small pieces such as obi clasps, adding a touch of elegance to the venue. | Biography Biography | Born in Shingu City, Wakayama Prefecture Graduated from Rikkyo University, Faculty of Letters. I studied dyeing and weaving at Otsuka Textile College. Since then, he has held solo exhibitions throughout Japan. |
