Thanks to your support, our gallery was able to relocate to its current location and celebrate its 10th anniversary this April. Our gallery is still in its infancy, but we are truly grateful to everyone for their support.
Now, as a token of our gratitude for our 10th anniversary, following the recent "Kakuhazu Kiln Warehouse Sale of Tableware" which was very well received, we will be holding a group exhibition featuring only mukozuke (small side dishes). Since Kakiden in Shinjuku was established in 1969 as a tea ceremony training hall, we have asked the 18 artists who have supported us to please us, and have planned an exhibition of mukozuke (small dishes served with tea), which are indispensable for tea ceremonies.
As you know, mukozuke is the most frequently used type of ceramic dish in kaiseki cuisine served at tea ceremonies. The mukozuke is said to have gotten its name because, as shown in the photo above, it is placed on the opposite side of the four bowls used to hold rice and miso soup. In a tea ceremony, the mukozuke is initially served with sashimi and vinegar, but it is later used as a plate for grilled fish and other dishes.
While mukozuke are traditionally used in kaiseki meals for tea ceremonies, their dimensions are perfectly suited for everyday meals, making them incredibly convenient to use even when not involved in the tea ceremony. This is our gallery's first exhibition of diverse mukozuke (small decorative dishes) from all over Japan, and we would be grateful for any guidance you can offer.
