Introduction
Introduction

On a cold February day, we set course north.

Hiroshi Nakamura came to greet me with a smile at Makomanai Station, the last stop on the Sapporo subway line.

She said with a laugh, "There hasn't been much snow this year," but to me, that was more than enough snow...

Yu-san is a ceramic artist who established a workshop called "Kusa no Kama" (Grass Kiln) in Makomanai, Hokkaido, and has made a name for himself with his works inspired by the northern landscape.

The motifs are the snowfields and forests of the northern lands, and recently they have been venturing into new themes such as drift ice and snowfields in darkness.

Now, for this exhibition, our gallery's third, we will be presenting over 60 of our latest works, primarily tableware, but also including tea ceremony ceramics.

When I visited the workshop the other day, there were many attractive new works on display, so I'm really looking forward to seeing what kind of exhibition it will be.

This exhibition runs during a time when spring is spreading and winter is becoming increasingly dwindling. We hope you will enjoy the lingering winter from the northern country.
