Introduction
Introduction

In Tajimi, Mino, a town renowned for its pottery, Ichisaemon lights the kiln and single-mindedly creates unique and distinctive bowls.

Perhaps because his understanding of tea has deepened, or perhaps because he has grown older, his approach to making tea bowls has changed recently. Now, he is determined to create a tea bowl that will allow him to enjoy a cup of tea at the very end of his life.

He has been seriously dedicated to working with the soil, and recently, he came across the finest soil in Setoguro in a nearby mountain.

This exhibition, the third of its kind at our gallery, will primarily showcase recent works, including tea bowls such as Seto-kuro ware.

Please feel free to pick up each bowl and offer your frank and honest feedback.

Biography
Biography
I grew up in a family that worked with clay in the Mino ware pottery region.

I went on to Musashino Art University, where I acquired the fundamentals of craftsmanship.
After graduating, while continuing to create pottery, she became fascinated with jewelry and flew to New York (1980).
Featured in famous fashion magazines such as Vogue, she created art jewelry in New York for 10 years.

After returning to Japan, I resumed pottery making.
He held a solo exhibition at Ginkaku-ji Temple in Kyoto (1999), and was bestowed the art name "Ichisaemon" by Abbot Arima Yoritei of the Shokoku-ji branch of the Rinzai school of Zen Buddhism. (His real name is Yukihiro Shibata.)

My encounter with Mr. Takatsukasa Naotake, former chief priest of Ise Grand Shrine, led to the ceremony of offering a tea bowl to the shrine, and I received an honor far beyond my wildest dreams.
Currently, I am diligently working on my pottery skills every day, receiving guidance from the head of the Enshu school of tea ceremony, Kobori Sōjitsu.
