| Introduction Introduction |
I first met Mr. Gokou six years ago. I remember as if it were yesterday visiting his home in Kurokami, Kumamoto City, with Professor Seizo Hayashiya, and chatting with him in front of his Gokou tea bowls. I enjoyed a delicious home-cooked meal prepared by the wife in their very lovely and stylish home. Since then, I have been drawn to Mr. Goko's honest, humble, and kind personality, and I aspire to be like him, despite my own immaturity.
Now, for this exhibition, our gallery's first in two years, we will be presenting mainly new tea bowls, including Raku and Shigaraki ware. His tea bowls, with their clean form and beautiful glaze, feel wonderfully comfortable in the palm of your hand, and I use them myself. The latest tea bowl, though small in size, has a quiet form and a strong presence, making the tea taste even better.
Unfortunately, it seems that Mr. Goko's kiln, located at the foot of Mount Aso, was damaged in the recent earthquake. Currently, they are firing their kilns in Nagano and Yugawara, albeit with some inconvenience, and I sincerely hope for their swift recovery.
I understand this is a busy time of year as we head towards the end of the year, but I would be delighted if you could take a look at it.
